This site exists to give the Rice Purity Test a modern, honest, and private home. The classic 100 question survey has been passed around campuses and message boards for more than four decades, and most versions online treat it as an afterthought. Slow pages, invasive tracking, questions rewritten by strangers, and results wrapped in ads. We built something different. A fast tool, faithful questions, a clean scoring experience, and a design that works on any device you already own.
The project started as a weekend build in a college dorm. One of our founders wanted to compare scores with a group of friends and could not find a version of the test that felt trustworthy. Some sites had swapped out questions to inflate scores. Others required an email address before showing the result. A few were riddled with pop ups. We built the first version of this site in a single evening with three goals in mind. Keep the question list accurate, show the score instantly, and never gate the result behind a sign up. What started as a personal tool grew into a full site once friends started sharing the link, and it has been improving steadily ever since.
We believe self assessments only work when the people taking them trust the process. That trust comes from three things. The questions have to match what people remember from the original test. The scoring has to be transparent and reproducible. And the experience has to respect the person on the other side of the screen. Nothing on this site is designed to trick you into a longer visit, a bigger email list, or a purchase. Your score is the product. Everything else supports it.
There are dozens of Rice Purity Test sites, and most of them look identical. Here is what we do differently.
First, we treat the question list as canonical. We use the widely accepted 100 question version that has been the standard since the late 1990s. We do not add joke questions, remove uncomfortable ones, or rephrase items in ways that change the meaning. When the community wording updates, we update carefully and note the change.
Second, we treat privacy as a default rather than a setting. Guest takers never send their individual answers to any server. Only the final score is stored, and even that is optional. Signed in users can save scores and see trends over time, but they can delete any record with one click. We do not sell data, run behavioral ads, or share information with third parties beyond the standard analytics needed to keep the site fast.
Third, we designed for mobile first. Buttons meet accessibility guidelines for tap size. Text scales cleanly. The progress bar is always visible. Dark mode is properly tuned rather than a color inversion. Screen reader users get real ARIA labels instead of decorative icons. These choices sound small on their own, but together they make the difference between a page you tolerate and a page you actually enjoy using.
Fourth, we take the results page seriously. Instead of a bare number, you get a plain English interpretation of your score band, a visual dial, and a shareable card that reveals nothing about your individual answers. If you want to compare with friends, you can. If you want to keep the result to yourself, that is the default.
When you open the test, you see the full list of 100 questions on a single page with a sticky progress indicator. You check each item that applies to you and skip the ones that do not. There is no timer and no penalty for pausing. Your progress is stored in your browser as you go, so refreshing the page or closing the tab does not lose your work on the same device.
When you finish, the site calculates your score by subtracting the number of checked items from 100 and shows the result instantly. The score is paired with a short interpretation, a visual distribution that shows where you fall relative to typical takers, and a share card. If you are signed in, you can also save the score to your profile with an optional note about the context, such as the year you took it or the friend group you took it with. Saved scores appear as a small history chart on your profile so you can see how your answers shift over time.
The Rice Purity Test is most popular with high school seniors, college students, and people in their early twenties who use it as a fun benchmark with friends. It is also popular with older adults who take it as a nostalgic look back at college years. We welcome all of these audiences and design the site so that the experience feels the same whether you are on a shared dorm laptop, a personal phone, or a tablet at home. The test is not a psychological instrument, a moral judgment, or a substitute for professional advice. It is a shared cultural artifact that gives people a common frame of reference for talking about experience.
We do not run pop ups. We do not require email sign up to see your score. We do not add a paywall to any part of the test. We do not tie your score to your legal name, address, or phone number. We do not create profiles about users for advertising. And we do not modify the question list to make scores look artificially higher or lower.
The site is supported by a small number of clearly labeled ads and, in the future, optional premium features for signed in users who want deeper score history and comparison tools. Ads never appear on the questions page or the results page itself. We would rather earn less than compromise the core experience.
Our team is small on purpose. Two engineers, one designer, and one writer split the work of building, maintaining, and improving the site. Between us we cover product decisions, accessibility reviews, content, and community support. We answer every message that comes through the contact form and use that feedback to prioritize what to build next.
Our roadmap is guided by what visitors ask for most. On the near term list we have shareable result images with better typography, opt in comparison rooms so groups of friends can view a private leaderboard together, more score analytics for signed in users, and additional test variants like a Gen Z edition and a couples edition that keep the same scoring rules but update the wording. Every new feature ships behind the same rules that guided the original project. Accurate questions, transparent scoring, private by default, and fast on every device.
